ZS10 Pro X vs ZS12 Pro X Tuning - a surprise

I’ve been using the ZS series IEMs now for about three years, primarily for playing drums or bass at my church. I started with the ZS10 Pros and liked them a great deal, upgrading to the ZS1O Pro X last year. They’ve been my go-to IEMs, even while having opportunities to buy JL Audio custom molded IEMs through my church.

My wife bought a set of ZS12 Pro X (tuning version) for me for Christmas and I was actually a bit disappointed in them. While they seem to have great mids and treble, the bass is surprisingly lacking compared to the ZS10 Pro X - even with all switches set to the “on” position. It’s close, but just not there. I really expected them to be notably better than the ZS10 Pro X.

On a positive note, I love the all-metal construction. They would be super-durable and that’s important for someone like me who’s rough on IEMs.

I’m going to try the AS16 Pro X next after I return the ZS12’s. I’m hopeful they’ll be better but it’s quite possible the ZS10 Pro X is already the best I can get for my drums ‘n’ bass needs.
